THE YOGI's AMBITION

"More than any other place in the world, it was Hong Kong which needs yoga. People there live under constant tension and insomnia is the biggest problem," says Kamal, taking pride in introducing yoga for the first time there.

Master Kamal, Who created a storm with his yoga in Hong Kong about a decade ago and again in China a couple of years ago, is planning to bring his unique yoga studio to the city.

This 41-year old Vizagite who has claim to fame as yoga guru talked to City
Express about his current ventures, future plans and decade-long experience of introducing yoga aboard.

"More than any other place in the world, it was Hong Kong which needed yoga. People there live under 24x7 time-frame tension and insomnia is the biggest problem there," begins Kamal, taking pride in the fact that he introduced yoga for the first time there. He moved to Hong kong about a decade ago. "It just happened," he answers when asked about it.

The credit of introducing yoga in China also goes to him. Do not be surprised if you see people from this communist stronghold meditating. "My courses have finally been recognised by the government there. It took almost four years to convince them about yoga. I had to undergo lot of screening by the officials. They scrutinised every sound that I made during yoga," recollects Kamal. He himself began learning yoga when he was five. Though he went to many renowned gurus in the country, he considers his father as his first guru. A martial arts expert, he is planning to present a demonstration during the Olympics to be held in Beijing in 2008. "Now that my courses are recognised, I can afford to take a step further. Me and my team would hopefully be able to give our performance," he says with a bright smile on his face. The buzzword yoga has sent stars around the globe from Brooke Shields to Madonna into a frenzy and it is no surprise that the eastern world is abuzz with Kamal's Warrior Yoga. Each of his studios is visited by as many as one thousand people a day. These centres also teach Kuchipudi, dandiya, bhangra and fusion dance.

His work involves a lot of travelling to China, Malaysia, Taiwan, the USA but less frequently to India. "But once the centres are opened here, India would also be included in the list," he says. Perhaps, this is one reason he has not got married, "My work takes 18-20 hours a day. Further, my travelling keeps my schedule even more tighter," he says.
